Karthik has repeatedly stated throughout the season that IPL 2024 might be his final IPL season as a player, although he has yet to formally announce his retirement from the IPL.

Throughout the course of his IPL career, the wicket-keeper batter has played for six different teams. In 2008, he began playing with the Delhi Daredevils, and in 2011, he moved to Punjab. Before returning to Delhi in2014, he played for Mumbai for the next two seasons. He was signed by RCB in 2015, and after playing for the Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017, he spent four seasons leading KKR. When Karthik joined the RCB again in 2022, he was a master at playing the finisher.
