By announcing a ground-breaking $11.25 million in prize money for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has broken previous records.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 winners will take home a minimum of $2.45 million, the most prize money in the competition’s history, according to a media release from the ICC.
The losing semi-finalists will receive $787,500 apiece, while the runners-up will receive at least $1.28 million.
Teams who do not go past the second round, meanwhile, will split $382,500 among themselves, and those that place ninth through twelfth will split $247,500.
Additionally, the teams who finish in 13th through 20th place will split $225,000.
Each club will also receive an extra $31,154 for each win they record during the tournament—that is, excluding the semifinals and championship games.
“Given the historical nature of this event, it makes sense that player prize money would reflect that.” In what we hope will be an Out of This World event, the players will thrill hundreds of millions of spectators worldwide, according to ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice in a media statement.
This will be the first time in the tournament’s history that 20 teams will compete. The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will take place in nine different locations in the USA and the West Indies over the course of 28 days.
At this premier event, 40 matches will be played in the group stage. The Super 8 (quarterfinal) and semifinals, which will take place in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, will come next.
The championship match between the 2024 men’s champions will take place at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
