Making History, Shreyas Iyer Becomes The World’s First Captain To…
At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 21, Shreyas Iyer made history by leading the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) final with an impressive eight-wicket victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Mitchell Starc created havoc after S and decided to bowl first, knocking danger man Travis Head for a duck and eventually claiming three wickets in the powerplay. SRH managed to score just 159 runs despite half-centuries from Rahul Tripathi and a fast-bowled cameo from Henrick Klaseen.
With 38 balls remaining, KKR successfully reduced the total in response. Shreyas, the captain, set the tone early with an incredible 58 off 24 balls. With a score of 51 off of 28 balls, Venkatesh Iyer achieved a half-century while staying undefeated at the crease.
Shreyas Iyer Creates History
After leading his team to the final for the second time in his IPL career, Shreyas has cemented his legacy in history. The talented Indian batter had earlier guided the Delhi Capitals (DC) to their maiden IPL final in 2020, a matchup they ultimately lost in Dubai against the Mumbai Indians.
Shreyas, after MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and KKR coach Gautam Gambhir, is only the fourth captain in history to make it to more than one IPL final. With the same team, Dhoni, Rohit, and Gambhir accomplished the feat.
