Former India captain Sourav Ganguly declared Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant “fully fit” but added that he would still wait for a few more IPL matches to get a better idea of the wicketkeeper-batter’s chances of making the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, assuming the selectors choose to pick him.

After a horrific car accident in December 2022, Pant took a 15-month break before returning to cricket. He started the IPL 2024 slowly, but his back-to-back half-centuries against CSK and KKR have sent a strong message.

When asked if he believes Pant is ready to be chosen for the Indian team, DC’s director of cricket, Ganguly, replied, “Let a few more matches go.” He’s doing fantastically. You’ve all probably seen, batting, (wicket) keeping. He’s held up pretty well.

“He’s been in incredible form, particularly with the bat, as seen in the last two games. Give me a week and I’ll be able to respond to that question. Most importantly, though, is that I hope the selectors choose to pick him. He’s well and truly fit,” Ganguly continued.

Pant has amassed 152 runs at a strike rate of almost 160 in four games thus far. Even though his batting is gradually improving, questions about his keeping and whether his legs are prepared for the grind still persist.
