A difficult professional relationship with spinner Kuldeep Yadav during his days of struggle with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) back in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 was revealed by veteran Indian and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik on Sunday. It was also one of his biggest regrets in his cricketing career. With his finishing prowess, Karthik, who is presently with RCB, has lit up the Indian Premier League. Karthik has made 90 runs at an average of 45.00 and a strike rate of over 173 in four matches thus far in the tournament, which is expected to be his final IPL ever.

Karthik has amassed 4,606 runs at an average of 26.02, a strike rate of over 133, and 20 fifties in 247 IPL games. His highest rating is 97*. In the history of the competition, he ranks as the tenth-highest run scorer.

Following his tenure with the Delhi Capitals until 2010, the right-handed batter had stints with the following teams: Royal Challengers Bangalore (2015, 2022–present), Gujarat Lions (2016–17), Kolkata Knight Riders (2018–21), Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings, 2011), Mumbai Indians (2012–13), Delhi again in 2014. His only IPL championship to date was earned with MI in the 2013 season.

After a stellar 2013 season with MI, Karthik, who won the 2013 season, expressed regret on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel about not wanting to be retained by the Blue and Gold team. He could have developed into an even better player had he stayed with MI. Not being able to play for his home state with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was another regret he had.

“Regarding the IPL, if you had to ask me one regret from my cricket career, it would be that I didn’t want to be retained in 2013.” If I could go back in time and undo everything, I believe that as a young player, you sometimes need a life coach. If Abishek Nayar had been around at that point, I’m sure he would have advised me to play for the Mumbai Indians,” said Karthik.

“I don’t regret too much in my life. I’m not that kind of person, but if I had to name two regrets from my IPL cricket career, it would be that I felt MI was a team that could have truly developed me into an even better player, so I decided not to be retained.”
