7 Indian cricket players who competed in the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup but are not included in the 2024 team
The team will be led by Rohit Sharma. In 2022, he guided India to the semifinals of the previous tournament held in Australia. Many of the players that are currently on the roster participated in the 2022 T20 World Cup. We shall discuss seven more players from the 2022 edition below, who will not be present in the forthcoming event.
7 Indian cricketers who were part of ICC T20 World Cup 2022 but are not in ICC T20 World Cup 2024 squad:
1. KL Rahul:
KL Rahul participated in both the T20 World Cup 2022 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, finishing among India’s top scorers. Although he participated in six games in that event, he will be the only well-known player to miss the upcoming tournament. Despite his outstanding performance in the IPL 2024, the selectors chose Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson as their two wicketkeepers due to their middle-order batting skills.
2. Deepak Hooda:
Another player excluded from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is Deepak Hooda. He is not now included in the team and may not make a comeback to the side anytime soon because he is not part of the plan for Team India and his form is currently subpar.
3. Dinesh Karthik:
During the most recent T20 World Cup in 2022, veteran Indian goalkeeper Dinesh Karthik participated in his final international match for his country. In that tournament, he played four games and was the first-choice goalie. However, since then, India has given young keepers opportunities, which is why he won’t be playing at the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024.
4. Ravi Ashwin:
The legendary IND vs. PAK match at the MCG included veteran off-spinner Ravi Ashwin, who also participated in the T20 World Cup 2022 and scored the game-winning runs. He is not, however, a member of the present team. Four spinners who are doing well in the current IPL 2024 have been selected by India. In the current event, Ashwin’s results are not promising.
5. Mohammed Shami:
Mohammed Shami’s unavailability prevented selectors from choosing him for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, not his performance. Since the conclusion of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, Shami has not played. He had surgery in February, and it will take him a few months to fully recuperate. It is the desire of Team India that other pacers can do well for the team.
6. Bhuvneshwar Kumar:
Along with Jasprit Bumrah, seasoned Indian bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar was India’s first-choice pacer in the shortest format a few years back. However, he played his final game for India in the semi-final against England. India hasn’t selected him in either format since that time. It will be extremely tough to see Bhuvneshwar Kumar in Indian colours again considering the emergence of fresh bowlers and his poor performances in 2022 that caused him to fall out of favour.
7. Harshal Patel:
While Harshal Patel was present at the T20 World Cup 2024, he did not participate in any matches. He was the backup pacer for India in that edition and was included in the squad due to his IPL and bilateral series performances. However, his poor performance forced him to sit out of the squad, and India no longer considers him a threat. Harshal has been excluded from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 due to this reason.
